Nickajack Lake has 179 miles of shoreline and 10,370 acres of surface west of Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. The lake runs 46 miles upstream from Nickajack Dam to Chikamauga Dam.
The TVA dam was completed in 1967 and replaced the leaking Hales Bar Dam which was built in 1913. The Hales Bar Dam was the first dam on the main part of the Tennessee River.
