Graveyard Fields
There is a spot along the Blue Ridge Parkway called Graveyard fields. It is around mile post 418, and is at a little over 5000 feet in elevation. As it happens, there are some major streams running through this area, and one of them is the East Fork Pigeon River.
There are multiple trails located here, and it is a great place for wild flowers. Keep in mind that at this elevation, the wildflowers will come a little later than in lower areas. This is the only place I've seen the Painted Trillium (my favorite) growing in the wild. It's wet, raw, and beautiful. Worth a visit.
