Across the Chattahoochee
Stormy skies over Browns Bridge on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia Browns Bridge was built in 1955 over the Chattahoochee River on Lake Lanier. It replace a low water bridge that was covered by the lake.
That Chattahoochee River is over 400 miles long. The source is located in Union County, Georgia inside the Chattahoochee National Forest. The river flows generally southwest and provides much of the water for Lake Sydney Lanier. After flowing through Atlanta, Georgia, the river meanders more southwest and forms part of the border between Alabama and Georgia. The river is known by many locals as "The Hooch".
Lake Lanier (Lake Sydney Lanier) is a 38,000 acre lake with over 690 miles of shoreline in northern Georgia. It was created by completing the Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956. It is also fed by the Chestatee River. (30.0 sec at f/11, ISO 50)
